Expertise through range and breadth.

About

For my life, my career and my family, I continue to seek and collect new experiences. This website is one of them. The content and tutorials here currently have a distinct analytics focus, but I plan to broaden out the content, especially in the blog section. At the end of the day, I want this website to bring to the fore (and to the public) the ever accumulating files and tidbits of knowledge in my personal Dropbox and Google Drive! I hope to synthesize and present a great deal of content that doesn’t do any good sitting static up in the cloud.

I lived my first 22 years in Kentucky, USA, but I’ve spent most of my adult life in Indonesia and Australia. I moved to a small village in Central Java, then to the tsunami-battered Banda Aceh, and now I live in Melbourne, Australia. My journey has included several 90 degree turns. I’ve worked in an Islamic boarding school as an English teacher, helped to establish a private university in Jakarta, trained the data analytics staff of a state government department, and recently helped a premier hospital conduct its long-term infrastructure and asset planning.

From these experiences, I hope to bring some key tools and insights to anyone dedicated to making positive change through data analytics, research and evaluation.

Life & Growth

Expanding horizons.

I was truly out of my element when I moved from Louisville, Kentucky as a math major to Central Java, Indonesia as an English teacher.

Seeking adventure.

I’ve never been one to say “no” to riding a dirt bike up the slope of an active volcano, if it meant making some great friends along the way.

Passing it on.

As a husband and father, life is now a bit more about balance and responsibility, but we still create little adventures here and there.

Work & Career

Fulbright Scholar

During my a Fulbright scholarship in Indonesia, my life changed. I was exposed to a broader spectrum of human life and society, made lifetime friendships and establish new career goals.

Researcher

I didn’t do my PhD for a piece of paper. I did it to push the boundaries of my personal drive, expertise and intrinsic motivation. I did it to be able to pose more precise and directed questions and understand the methodologies needed for addressing them.

Data Scientist

What is a data scientist? In my case, it’s a math major with a suitcase full of diverse education, career and business experiences who loves to use observable evidence to support problem solving.

Consultant

Consulting is problem solving, mediation, facilitation and sometimes serving as the scapegoat. It’s a whirlwind of projects and experiences that suits my broad interests and work ethic.

Educator

I’ve taught intermediate algebra at a US community college, tutored calculus at an elite Australian university, and conduct professional development trainings for companies’ analytics staff.

Author

Writing is one of the best ways to learn. I find it difficult to shape my thoughts unless I write them down, and once I do, why not share them?
